Chapter 10 - THE HAPPY ENDING

Ten years later.

The autumn sun shone brilliantly over the manicured lawns of the Moretti estate, illuminating the grand stone fountains and the vibrant rose gardens that bloomed in rich shades of crimson and gold.

The mansion no longer felt like a fortress of isolation and fear. Today, it echoed with the sound of laughter, music, and celebration.

In the grand courtyard, long banquet tables were laden with food, flowers, and champagne glasses reflecting the afternoon light. Capos, business partners, federal judges, and close family friends mingled freely, sharing drinks and stories in an atmosphere of absolute peace and prosperity. The Moretti syndicate was no longer a shadow empire of blood and contraband; it was a legitimate global philanthropic foundation and corporate titan, respected and untouchable.

On the grand terrace overlooking the gardens, a fifteen-year-old girl with bright, intelligent eyes and a sparkling diamond rabbit locket around her neck was laughing as she adjusted the veil of her mother’s elegant white lace wedding gown.

Sophia Carter—now Sophia Moretti—looked breathtaking, her face glowing with a deep, radiant happiness that time and security had only enriched.

Standing a few feet away, adjusting the cuffs of his tailored black tuxedo, was Aleandro Moretti. His hair was streaked with distinguished silver at the temples, but his posture remained as commanding and powerful as ever. Only now, the cold, lethal edge in his eyes had been replaced by a deep, immovable warmth.

He looked at his wife, then turned his gaze toward Emma, who was happily running over to hand him a small boutonnière for his lapel.

“Here you go, Dad,” Emma said brightly, using a word she had started calling him years ago—a word that carried more weight and power than any title in the underworld.

Aleandro knelt down on one knee, letting Emma carefully pin the white rose to his lapel, just as she had once jabbed an EpiPen into his thigh in a desperate bid to save a stranger’s life.

“Thank you, my little engineer,” Aleandro whispered with a warm smile, gently tapping the tip of her nose.

Emma giggled, turning to run back toward the courtyard where the string quartet was beginning to play the opening notes of the wedding march.

Sophia walked over, stepping up beside Aleandro. She looked out over the sun-drenched estate, watching the guests turn their attention toward the terrace as the ceremony was about to begin.

She slipped her hand into Aleandro’s strong, steady palm, lacing her fingers through his.

“Ten years,” Sophia murmured softly, leaning her head against his shoulder. “Sometimes I still look back at that night with the handcuffs and wonder if it was all a dream.”

Aleandro wrapped his arm securely around her waist, pulling her close against his heart, his dark eyes fixed on the bright, beautiful future stretching out before them.

“It wasn't a dream, my love,” Aleandro replied, his voice deep, steady, and filled with absolute peace. “It was just the night our real life finally began.”

And as the music swelled across the gardens, bathed in the golden light of an afternoon that would never fade, the most feared man in New York smiled, knowing that his blood, his home, and his heart were finally safe forever.
