Chapter 9 - The Garden of Roses

Three years later, the Bellandi estate was no longer a fortress. It was a home.

The high iron gates were still there, and the security cameras still watched the perimeter, but the gardens were filled with the sound of laughter.

Mia was nine now, a bright, confident girl who had traded her plush rabbit for a real pony, though Barnaby still sat on her pillow every night. Nico’s drawings had been framed and hung in the grand corridor, replacing the dark portraits of stern, long-dead men with bright, colorful scenes of dragons, knights, and castles.

Leo was twelve, a handsome, brilliant young man who was already studying business and law. He still had his father’s sharp mind, but he had my heart. He had learned that strength was not about making others feel small, but about protecting those who were.

I stood on the patio, my hands resting on my swollen belly. I was eight months pregnant with our fourth child—a little boy we had already decided to name Joseph, after my father.

Dante walked up behind me, his arms wrapping around my waist, his hands resting over mine on my stomach. He pressed a kiss to the side of my neck, his dark hair brushing my cheek.

"He is active today," Dante murmured, feeling the small kick beneath his palms.

"He wants to join his brother and sisters," I smiled, watching the three triplets chase our golden retriever across the green lawn.

"Let him wait a little longer," Dante said, pulling me closer against his chest. "I like having you all to myself."

May you like

"You never have me all to yourself, Dante," I laughed. "You have to share me with three very demanding children."

"They are my children," he said, his voice soft and full of a deep, contented warmth. "And you are my wife. We are a package deal."
