Chapter 10 - Peace and Beginnings

Six months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over a quiet, beautiful estate on the outskirts of Lake Geneva. The bitter chill of winter had melted away, replaced by blooming green grass and the warm scent of lilac in the breeze.
On the wide wooden porch overlooking the shimmering lake, Emma sat in a comfortable rocking chair, watching the sunlight dance across the water. She wore a soft yellow summer dress, her eyes bright and filled with a peace she had never thought possible.
Footsteps sounded behind her, steady and familiar.
Roman stepped onto the porch, carrying a tray with two glasses of iced tea and a small rattle for Lily. He had traded his dark, intimidating business suits for casual linen shirts, though the quiet, commanding presence that made him Roman Callahan remained entirely intact.
He handed a glass to Emma, then sat down on the bench beside her, watching as little Lily—not learning to take her very first wobbly steps—toddled across the porch rug toward a colorful wooden toy.
"She's going to be running by next week," Roman said, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his face.
"I know," Emma laughed softly, taking a sip of her tea. "I'll never be able to sit down again."
Roman reached over, his warm fingers brushing gently against hers. The silence between them wasn't heavy anymore; it was comfortable, filled with shared history and a future they were building together.
While Caleb had never returned—and perhaps never would, having chosen to disappear completely into the wind to keep his family safe from the ghosts of his past—his sacrifice and his legacy had brought Emma and Roman together in a way neither of them could have ever predicted. They had become each other's redemption, an unexpected family forged in fire and grace.
"You know," Roman said quietly, looking out over the sparkling lake, "I finally slept eight hours straight last night."
Emma turned to him, her eyes shining with love and amusement. "Is that right, Mr. Callahan?"
May you like
Roman smiled, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close against his side as Lily let out a happy, triumphant gurgle as she finally grabbed her toy.
"Call him... call me Roman," he whispered, kissing the top of her head. "And yes... for the first time in my life, I finally have peace."
