Chapter 6 - The Trap Closes

Two weeks later, the financial firm where Trevor worked was hit with an unannounced federal audit.
It wasn't a random occurrence. Jonathan’s legal team had quietly handed over a forensic accounting report to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the local district attorney, detailing years of corporate embezzlement, kickbacks, and falsified ledgers orchestrated by Trevor and his immediate supervisor.
Trevor was sitting at his corner desk on the forty-second floor when two federal agents in dark suits walked past the reception desk and stopped at his cubicle.
"Trevor Sterling?" one agent asked, though they already knew the answer.
"It's just Trevor," he stammered, standing up so fast his chair knocked backward into a filing cabinet. "There's some mistake. I'm a senior analyst here—"
"You're under arrest for wire fraud, grand larceny, and corporate embezzlement," the agent interrupted, snapping steel handcuffs around Trevor’s wrists with a sharp click.
As they marched him through the open-plan office past dozens of staring colleagues, Trevor caught sight of his reflection in the tinted glass windows. His hair was slightly disheveled, his expensive tie was crooked, and his whole world was collapsing into dust.

He had thought he was invincible. He had thought he could control everything with intimidation and fists.
Now, as the elevator doors slid shut, trapping him in a metal box with two federal officers, Trevor realized the horrifying truth: he had poked a sleeping dragon, and the dragon had simply decided to burn his entire world to ash.
