Chapter 10 - A Happily Ever After

Years later, the Sterling estate was humming with the joyous chaos of a large, thriving family Sunday dinner.
The dining room table was laden with roasted turkey, fresh garden vegetables, and a massive chocolate cake celebrating Emma’s eighth birthday. Emma was now a bright, articulate honor student who loved ballet and painting, while nine-year-old Lily was a fierce little soccer player who took after her grandfather in both stubbornness and sharp intellect.
Rebecca stood by the French doors leading out to the sunlit terrace, looking out over the gardens. She wore a simple emerald-green dress that caught the afternoon light.
Jonathan walked up beside her, leaning gently against the doorframe, holding a glass of sparkling cider. He looked older now, his silver hair completely white, but his eyes were sharp and full of deep contentment.
"You know," Jonathan said quietly, taking a sip from his glass, "I used to think my legacy was shipping lanes, stock portfolios, and real estate holdings."
Rebecca turned to him, raising an eyebrow with a playful smile. "And what do you think it is now?"
Jonathan reached out, gently wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close. He looked across the room at Emma laughing over a spilled glass of juice and Lily proudly showing off a shiny soccer trophy.

"It’s standing right here," Jonathan said softly. "Strong, unbreakable, and entirely free."
Rebecca leaned her head against her father’s shoulder, smiling as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over a home filled with absolute peace, safety, and a truly happy ending.
