The winter snow melted away as the calendar turned over into the bright, crisp mornings of the new year. Life in Overland Park returned to its normal, peaceful rhythm, but for Corinne and Casey, the world felt infinitely brighter, safer, and entirely renewed.
In the federal district courtrooms of Kansas City, the legal proceedings against Ross Miller and Gwendolyn Vance moved swiftly and decisively. Faced with insurmountable digital evidence—including offshore financial ledgers, encrypted email chains outlining the entire fraudulent conspiracy, and audio recordings of their plot to fabricate false domestic abuse claims—their defense counsel realized a trial was entirely futile.
In mid-February, both defendants entered formal guilty pleas to multiple federal counts of wire fraud, identity theft, interstate financial conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. Because Ross had actively abused his position of trust to embezzle funds from defense subcontracts while Corinne was deployed overseas serving her country, federal sentencing guidelines were applied with maximum severity.

Gwendolyn Vance received a ten-year federal sentence for her role as the primary architect of the shell corporations and the mastermind behind the forged digital evidence. Because Gwendolyn had also attempted to flee the jurisdiction with stolen assets, her sentence included strict asset forfeiture provisions that stripped her of every luxury item, vehicle, and offshore account she had fraudulently acquired.
