Chapter 8 - A New Dawn For The House

The morning light broke through the high stained-glass windows of the DeLuca estate, washing away the gray autumn gloom and bathing the grand hallway in warm, gold light.
By afternoon, the estate had been purged. Every loyalist involved in Vincent’s conspiracy was stripped of their title and cast out, while those who had remained steadfast were rewarded. But the biggest shift in the DeLuca dynasty was not political—it was personal.
In the sunlit dining room, Lorenzo DeLuca sat at the head of the long oak table. His head was bandaged, his arm rested in a sling, but his face was bright and full of life.
Beside him sat Sophia Rossi, no longer wearing her maid’s apron, but dressed in a simple, elegant ivory dress. Across from them, sitting in a high chair brought up from the storage rooms, was little Emma, happily swinging her legs while eating a plate of fresh biscotti dipped in warm milk.
Capo Moretti stepped into the room, holding a leather folder. He looked at Sophia and Emma with deep respect before bowing slightly to Lorenzo.
“Don Lorenzo,” Moretti said formally. “The territory reorganizations are complete. The family is secure. But the capos are asking about the estate’s future management.”
Lorenzo looked at Sophia, whose hands were folded nervously in her lap, then at Emma, who was giggling as Biscotti the cat rubbed against her chair legs.
“The management of this house has already been decided,” Lorenzo said smoothly, his voice firm and clear. “Sophia Rossi is no longer an employee of this estate.”
Sophia’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes widening in momentary shock.
“From this day forward,” Lorenzo continued, reaching across the table to lay his hand over hers, “Sophia is the co-director of the DeLuca Foundation, overseeing all non-profit operations, real estate, and community outreach. And this house belongs to her and her daughter as much as it belongs to me.”
Sophia felt tears prick her eyes. For years, she had worked in the shadows of this grand house, worried every day about providing a safe future for her daughter. Now, in a single day, her life had been transformed forever.
“And what about the little boss?” Moretti asked with a warm smile, looking at Emma.
Lorenzo laughed—a rich, genuine laugh that had not been heard in that mansion for over a decade.
“Emma,” Lorenzo said softly, reaching into his pocket and placing a small velvet box on the table in front of her.
Emma opened the box with wide, curious eyes.
Inside lay a brand-new, custom-crafted pair of safety scissors made of solid sterling silver, with twin pink sapphire handles shaped like little rabbits, engraved with the words: To Emma — The Savior of the House.

Emma gasped, holding up her shiny new treasure. “For me, Uncle Lorenzo?”
“For you, my brave girl,” Lorenzo said, his eyes glowing with profound warmth. “Whenever anything in this world is broken, you have the power to fix it.”
