Chapter 9 - An Oath Bound in Fire

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of violet and orange, the guests began to clear out.

Dante and Vivienne walked down to the edge of the private cliff overlooking Lake Michigan. The water crashed rhythmically against the rocks below, sending a cool, refreshing mist into the summer air.

Leo had been put to sleep upstairs under the watchful eye of a new, military-vetted nurse team.

Dante pulled a small, velvet-lined mahogany box from his jacket pocket. He opened it, revealing a stunning platinum ring set with a flawless, emerald-cut black diamond, surrounded by tiny white diamonds.

Vivienne looked at the ring, then up at Dante.

"We signed the civil papers three months ago," Vivienne said with a soft smile. "What’s this?"

"The civil papers were strategy," Dante murmured, taking her right hand and slipping the heavy ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly. "This is personal."

He held her hand, bringing her knuckles to his lips.

"When you came into my life, Vivienne, I thought I was buying a weapon to protect my territory," Dante said, his voice deep, rough, and filled with rare, unfiltered emotion. "I didn't know I was meeting the only woman who could heal my soul. You saved Leo. You saved me from my own darkness."

Vivienne reached up, her hand gently resting against his cheek. "You gave me a home when I had nothing left, Dante. You stood between me and the world, and you trusted me when everyone else called me a monster."

"You are no monster," Dante whispered, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her body flush against his. "You are my queen."

Vivienne leaned up on her tiptoes, pressing her lips to his.

The kiss was slow, deep, and filled with a profound, unshakable devotion. There was no more fear, no more suspicion, and no more blood waiting around the corner. They had built an empire from the ashes of betrayal, and they had forged a love that was utterly unbreakable.

When they parted, Dante smiled—a rare, breathtaking smile that transformed his dark, hardened features into something remarkably warm.

"Come inside, Dr. Moretti," Dante murmured against her ear, his hands pulling her close. "The night is still young, and I believe we have a future to build."

Vivienne laughed—a rich, beautiful sound that echoed over the water—and took his hand.
