Part 8: Healing and the Dawn of a New Era

Two days later, the storm clouds finally parted, bathing the Romano estate in warm, golden autumn sunlight.
The kitchen was peaceful once more. The broken window had been replaced with crystal-clear glass, and the marble counters gleamed.
Teresa Alvarez sat at the large dining table in the main hall, no longer wearing an apron, but dressed in a fine, elegant cashmere sweater. Across from her sat her son, Mateo, who looked bewildered yet relieved in his crisp new suit, holding a cup of hot coffee provided by the estate staff.
Isabella poured fresh tea into fine porcelain cups, setting one down gently in front of Teresa.
“How are your hands, Teresa?” Isabella asked gently, sitting down beside her.
Teresa looked down at her wrists. The bandages were gone, replaced by soothing medical salve. She could move her fingers freely now, without the crippling pain caused by months of forced, grueling labor.
“Much better, Bella,” Teresa said, using her first name with a warmth that felt entirely natural now. “The doctor said with a few weeks of rest, they’ll heal completely. And Mateo... Mateo received an official letter from the dean this morning. His tuition is fully covered by the independent trust, and his spot in the nursing program is secure.”
“Good,” Isabella smiled. “He earned it.”
Mateo looked up, his eyes filled with profound gratitude. “Mr. Romano and you... you saved our lives. I don’t know how we can ever repay you.”
“You don’t owe us anything, Mateo,” a deep voice resonated from the archway.
Alex walked into the room, his jacket removed, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms. He carried a leather folder containing the final settlement papers. He stopped beside Isabella, resting a warm hand on her shoulder.
“Your grandfather’s trust is officially active,” Alex told Mateo. “You have a legal seat on the advisory board when you finish your degree, and the security detail assigned to you and your mother will remain until you feel safe.”
“What about Grace and Fiona?” Teresa asked, her voice carrying a hint of lingering fear.

“They’re gone,” Alex said flatly. “The board of the syndicate voted unanimously to strip them of all titles and corporate assets following the audit of their illegal activities. They’ve been permanently exiled from the estate and cut off from all Romano accounts. They won’t ever bother you again.”
Teresa let out a long, shuddering breath, as if a mountain had finally been lifted from her chest.
