Part 7: The Collapse of Grace’s Empire

Silence descended upon the courtyard, broken only by the hum of the SUV engines and the steady dripping of water from the estate’s grand oak trees.
Judge Vance stared at the document in his hands, his face losing all its color. As a magistrate tied to the city’s underworld through bribes and quiet favors, he knew the difference between a real legal trap and an empty threat. Victor Romano’s signature was unmistakable, and the independent trust clause was ironclad.
“This... this changes the scope of the injunction,” Judge Vance stammered, looking nervously between Alex and Grace. “Without a verified freeze, the court has no jurisdiction to seize the property.”
“Then pack up your files and get off my property,” Alex said softly, though the threat behind his words was unmistakable.
Grace stepped forward, her eyes blazing with pure hatred. She looked past Judge Vance, glaring directly at Isabella. “You think you’ve won, you little nobody? You think marrying into this family makes you one of us? You’re nothing but an outsider playing a dangerous game!”
Isabella didn’t flinch. She stepped closer to the gate, meeting Grace’s venomous gaze with absolute calm.
“I may be an outsider, Grace,” Isabella replied evenly, “but I’m the one standing in the light, while you are hiding in the dark, destroying your own blood just to hold onto power. It’s over. The empire doesn’t belong to your fear anymore.”

Grace opened her mouth to snap back, but Judge Vance grabbed her arm, whispering urgently in her ear. Realizing the legal battle was completely lost and her crimes were now fully exposed to the federal oversight committee, Grace’s shoulders slumped. With a look of pure, unadulterated malice, she turned, got back into the silver sedan, and slammed the door.
The convoy of federal vehicles and the silver sedan turned around in the expansive driveway and sped down the private road, disappearing into the rainy night.
