Chapter 9 - The Final Confrontation at the Docks

The rain had started again, washing over the asphalt of Pier 44 in Brooklyn like sheets of gray glass.

Enzo Marchetti sat inside the black armored sedan parked in the center of the loading bay, watching the shipping cranes loom like skeletal giants against the stormy night sky. His phone buzzed. It was supposed to be Salvatore reporting the capture of the penthouse.

Instead, the phone screen flashed a single word: Failed.

Enzo’s face twisted in rage. Before he could reach for the door handle, the driver’s side window of his sedan was shattered with a deafening crash.

A heavy black combat boot kicked the door open, sending it flying off its hinges.

Alessandro stood in the pouring rain, soaked to the bone, his dark suit ruined, holding a smoking pistol in his right hand. His eyes burned with a terrifying, apocalyptic fury.

He reached inside, grabbed Enzo by the lapel of his expensive cashmere coat, and dragged the aging mafia boss out of the car, slamming him hard against the side of the vehicle.

“You old bastard,” Alessandro whispered, pressing the barrel of his pistol directly beneath Enzo’s chin. “You sent men into my home. You threatened everything I care about.”

Enzo coughed, spitting blood onto the wet pavement, but a bitter, defiant smirk still twisted his lips. “Go ahead... shoot me. The moment I die, every syndicate on the East Coast declares war on the Ferraros. You’ll be hunted for the rest of your short life.”

Alessandro stared down at him, the rain streaming down his hard, chiseled jawline.

For a long moment, the world seemed to hold its breath.

Then, Alessandro slowly lowered the gun.

He didn't pull the trigger. Instead, he holstered the weapon, reached out, and ripped the gold signet ring of the Marchetti family straight off Enzo’s finger, tossing it disdainfully into a deep puddle of dirty water.

“I’m not going to kill you, Enzo,” Alessandro said, his voice cold enough to freeze fire. “Because death is too easy for a man like you. Instead, I am stripping you of every port, every warehouse, and every route your family owns from Maine to Miami. You are bankrupt. You are powerless. And by morning, you and your granddaughter will be on a one-way flight to a remote villa in Sicily, never to set foot on American soil again.”

Enzo’s eyes widened in absolute horror. “You can’t do that! That’s our entire legacy!”

“It was,” Alessandro corrected sharply. “Now, it’s mine.”

He signaled to Eli, who stepped forward with two armed guards and hauled the screaming, broken Don Marchetti away toward a waiting vehicle.

The war was over before it even truly began.
