Chapter 5 - The Emergency Boardroom Meeting

The private underground bunker beneath the Ferraro shipping yards in Brooklyn was entirely soundproof, windowless, and lined with reinforced titanium plating.
Around the long mahogany table sat the five regional capos of the Ferraro syndicate: men with scarred knuckles, cold eyes, and decades of blood on their hands. At the head of the table sat Alessandro, his expression like a glacier.
To his right sat Enzo Marchetti, his silver-tipped cane resting against his chair, his face a mask of calculated menace.
“We have a problem,” Enzo began, breaking the heavy silence. He looked around the table, letting his gaze land squarely on Alessandro. “Word has leaked from the Madison Avenue boutique. My granddaughter was humiliated in your penthouse yesterday—turned away at the door by your private security because you chose to protect a hired maid over your bride.”
Murmurs rippled through the capos. One of them, a heavy-set older man named Salvatore, shook his head. “Boss, the Marchetti alliance represents forty percent of our import revenue. If the wedding is called off because of a domestic employee, the families in Chicago and Miami will think we’re losing our grip. It’s bad for business.”
Alessandro didn't flinch. He slowly poured a cup of black coffee from a silver pot, his movements deliberate and unhurried.
“Business is thriving, Salvatore,” Alessandro said, his voice cutting through the murmurs like a blade. “Our ports are clear, our ledgers are balanced, and our expansion into the European shipping lanes is ahead of schedule. The alliance with the Marchetti family is important, yes. But let’s not mistake an arranged corporate merger for an absolute dictatorship over my personal life.”
Enzo slammed his silver cane down against the concrete floor with a deafening crack.
“You arrogant bastard!” Enzo snarled, standing up halfway from his chair. “That alliance is built on blood and honor! You don't insult my family for a penniless nobody! If you don't publicly apologize to Valentina by tonight and confirm the wedding date, the treaty is void. And what happens when our protection is withdrawn from your operations? You think you can stand alone against every rival syndicate on the East Coast?”
The tension in the bunker reached a boiling point. The capos leaned forward, hands resting near their waistbands where hidden holsters bulged beneath their suits. A civil war within the syndicate was only a sentence away.
Alessandro slowly stood up.
He didn't raise his voice. He didn't slam his fists. He simply rested his palms flat against the mahogany table and leaned forward, his dark eyes sweeping over every capo in the room until they finally locked onto Enzo’s cold gaze.
“Let’s get one thing straight, Enzo,” Alessandro said, every word dripping with lethal precision. “I built this empire from the ashes of my father’s failure. I bought these ports with my own blood, not your permission. If you want to break the treaty because I wouldn't let your granddaughter terrorize a grieving girl in my home, then go ahead. Pull your men out. Break the alliance.”
Enzo’s breath hitched. He hadn't expected Alessandro to call his bluff so brazenly.
“You’ll start a war,” Enzo whispered.
“If a war starts,” Alessandro replied softly, “you won't survive the first week. My men are loyal to me, not your antiquated notions of control.”

Alessandro buttoned his suit jacket, picked up his leather gloves, and walked toward the heavy steel exit doors without looking back.
“The wedding is canceled,” Alessandro threw over his shoulder as the heavy doors swung open. “Tell Valentina to keep the dress.”
