Chapter 8 - Justice and Unraveling

Sirens began to wail in the distance, their red and blue lights flashing through the high arched windows of the estate.

The grand ballroom dissolved into chaos as guests scrambled toward the perimeter, desperate to distance themselves from the Caruso family and the exposed traitor. Federal agents, led by a team of state investigators Ethan had secretly contacted two days prior, swept through the heavy mahogany front doors.

"Vincent Caruso, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, extortion, and illegal weapons trafficking," the lead agent announced, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around Vincent's wrists.

Vanessa screamed as an officer guided her away from her father. "Ethan, please! I didn't know about the explosion! I only wanted you!"

"You cut her hair to humiliate her because you knew she was a threat to your power," Ethan said, looking down at her with absolute coldness. "You are just as guilty as he is."

As the police escorted Vincent, Vanessa, and Dominic out into the pouring rain, the remaining guests looked toward Ethan and Hannah in stunned silence. Ethan raised his hand, dismissing the crowd.

"The party is over," Ethan said simply. "Leave."

Within an hour, the estate was quiet once again. The heavy chandeliers were dimmed, and the scent of rain filled the quiet halls.

Hannah sat in the library, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea. She was trembling slightly from the adrenaline, but her eyes were clear. Ethan walked in, carrying two glasses of water, and sat in the chair opposite her.

"It's over," Ethan said softly. "The Carusos won't ever touch this city again. Their assets are frozen, and Dominic will spend the rest of his life in a federal penitentiary."

Hannah looked out at the dark lawn. "I was so afraid for so long, Ethan. When Owen died... I thought I was completely alone in the world. I thought no one would ever protect this baby."

"You are not alone," Ethan said earnestly, leaning forward to look her in the eyes. "Owen was my brother, but you are the mother of his child. As long as I breathe, you and this child will have everything you need. Security, a home, and a family that honors Owen's memory."

Hannah smiled softly—a genuine, warm smile that reached her eyes for the first time since she had entered the house. "Thank you, Ethan."
