Chapter 10 - A New Beginning

One year later.

Spring had arrived in Chicago. The grounds of the Moretti estate were blooming with fresh green grass and vibrant flowers. The lakefront beyond the iron gates was calm, shimmering under a clear blue sky.

The Moretti family business had been completely transformed. Ethan had dismantled the illegal operations his father and Vincent Caruso had built, shifting the family's massive fortune into legitimate shipping enterprises, charitable foundations, and community development projects across the city.

In the estate’s sunny backyard garden, a small birthday party was taking place. White ribbon banners fluttered in the light breeze, and a small wooden playhouse stood near the ancient oak tree.

Hannah sat on a plush garden bench, watching little Owen, now a happy, energetic one-year-old toddler with dark curls, laughing as he chased a golden retriever puppy across the grass. Her dark hair had grown back long and thick, cascading past her shoulders, shiny and healthy. The small scar near her temple remained, but it was no longer a sign of pain—it was a reminder of her resilience.

Ethan walked out onto the patio, carrying a wrapped wooden box. He was wearing a simple linen shirt, looking relaxed and younger than he had in years.

"He's getting fast," Ethan said with a laugh, sitting down beside Hannah on the bench.

"He gets that from his uncle," Hannah replied with a warm chuckle.

Ethan opened the wooden box, revealing a set of signed legal trust documents bearing the seal of the city court. "This officializes everything. Owen Jr. is the primary owner of the Moretti foundation trusts. When he turns twenty-one, the entire legitimate estate belongs to him."

Hannah looked at the documents, then at Ethan. "You've given us a life I never thought we could have, Ethan. When I first walked into this house as a maid, I was terrified every single day."

"And now you are the heart of this house," Ethan said softly, taking her hand in a warm, familial squeeze. "Owen would be so proud of the mother you are. And I am honored to help you raise him."

Little Owen came tumbling across the grass, holding a bright yellow dandelion in his small fist. He wobbled up to the bench, holding the flower up to Hannah with a loud, triumphant babble.

Hannah laughed, pulling her son up into her lap and hugging him close, her heart overflowing with peace. Ethan leaned over, gently ruffling the boy's dark curls.

The shadow of the past was gone. The cruelty, the secrets, and the violence had been swept away, leaving behind a family built on loyalty, love, and a promise kept. Together, beneath the warm spring sun, they looked out over the lakefront—a home finally filled with light.
