Chapter 10 - The Beginning of Always

Two years later.
The sun shone brightly over a sprawling, sunlit estate in upstate New York. The heavy metal gates and armed guards were long gone, replaced by sprawling gardens, orchards of apple trees, and open fields where children could run free.
The back lawn was set up for a grand celebration. White silk ribbons fluttered in the warm summer breeze, and tables were laden with delicious food, fresh flowers, and laughter. Friends, business partners, and cured family members—including a fully reformed, hardworking Curtis—gathered to celebrate.
In the center of the lawn stood a beautiful wooden gazebo wrapped in white roses.
Damon Sterling stood at the altar, looking handsomer than ever in a classic black tuxedo. Beside him stood Foster, who was no longer a stoic bodyguard but a smiling best man.
Standing on Damon's other side were the two young groomsmen, both dressed in matching mini-tuxedos. Eight-year-old Theo stood tall and proud, while seven-year-old Eli was holding a velvet pillow containing the wedding bands—and, hidden discreetly underneath the pillow, his trusted green plastic dinosaur, Barnaby.
The string quartet began to play a soft, romantic melody.
Everyone stood up, turning toward the back doors of the mansion.
Josie stepped out into the sunlight. She was breathtaking. Her wedding dress was a masterpiece of lace and silk, flowing elegantly around her as she walked down the aisle. Her auburn hair was styled in soft waves, anchored by a delicate veil. But bright above all was her radiant, joyous smile as her eyes met Damon's.
Damon swallowed hard, his chest tight with overwhelmed happiness. When she reached the gazebo, he reached out his hand, guiding her up the wooden steps to stand beside him.
"You look like an angel," Damon whispered softly.
"And you look like my dream," Josie smiled back, her eyes sparkling.
The minister spoke words of love, unity, and resilience, but to Damon and Josie, the real vows had been spoken long ago in storm-lit hallways, subterranean bunkers, and quiet Italian mornings.
"Do you, Damon Sterling, take Josie Callahan to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and protect, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?"
Damon looked into Josie's eyes, his voice echoing clearly across the sunlit lawn: "I do. Forever."
"And do you, Josie Callahan, take Damon Sterling to be your lawfully wedded husband, to cherish and stand by, in good times and bad, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Josie said softly, her heart soaring. "With all my heart."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister smiled. "You may kiss the bride."
Damon pulled Josie into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply, bringing down a thunderous round of applause and cheers from the guests.
When they stood back up, flushed and laughing, Eli stepped forward, holding out his velvet pillow.
"Don't forget the rings!" Eli announced loudly, making the entire crowd erupt into affectionate laughter. "And Barnaby gives his permission too!"
May you like
Damon laughed, leaning down to scoop Eli up in one arm, while reaching over to pull Theo into the other. Josie wrapped her arms around her husband and sons, resting her head against Damon's chest.
They stood together under the warm summer sun—a family forged through shadows, healed by love, and bound together forever. The feared mafia boss had once owned an empire of cold steel and fear, but standing here with his wife and sons, he knew he had finally found his true empire: a home filled with light, laughter, and endless love.
