Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for the Duca Estate

Spring arrived early in New York that year, melting the last remnants of winter snow from the grand courtyards of the Duca estate and replacing them with vibrant rows of blooming tulips and blossoming cherry trees.

The heavy iron gates of the estate, once a symbol of isolation and untouchable power, now stood open wide to receive delivery trucks, administrative staff, and the quiet rhythm of normal, everyday life.

Inside the main dining hall, sunlight streamed brilliantly through the tall glass windows, illuminating a long mahogany table set for breakfast.

Grace Carter, dressed in a sharp, elegant emerald-green blazer and matching slacks, sat at the end of the table reviewing the weekly estate supply manifests. Her posture was no longer bowed by exhaustion or crushing debt; there was a quiet, radiant strength in her eyes that came from security, dignity, and respect.

Across from her sat Emma, enthusiastically dipping a piece of buttered toast into a cup of hot chocolate, chattering happily about a new picture book Marco had brought her yesterday.

The double doors at the end of the hall opened smoothly.

Lorenzo Duca walked in. He was still impeccably dressed in his tailored charcoal suit, but the heavy, suffocating aura of isolation that had once defined him was completely gone. His shoulders were relaxed, and his face—though still stern and commanding—carried the warmth of a man who had finally found peace after a long and brutal storm.

He walked past the table, pausing for a moment behind Emma’s chair. Without a word, he reached down and gently straightened the collar of her sweater.

Emma looked up, beaming at him with absolute, unclouded adoration. “Good morning, Mr. Lorenzo! Are you going to eat pancakes with us today?”

Lorenzo’s lips curved into a rare, genuine smile—a warm expression that transformed his harsh features entirely.

“Not today, little one,” Lorenzo said softly, his deep voice carrying a gentle affection. “I have a meeting at the port. But I promised your mother I’d be back before sunset for the garden walk.”

Grace looked up from her ledger, meeting Lorenzo’s gaze across the table. There were no words needed between them—only a silent, profound understanding forged in the crucible of survival, loyalty, and redemption.

“We’ll hold you to that promise, Boss,” Grace said with a warm, confident smile.

Lorenzo nodded once, turned on his heel, and walked out toward the grand foyer. As the heavy oak front doors swung open to let him pass, a fresh breeze carried the scent of blooming spring flowers and warm cedar through the halls of the estate.

The debt had been settled. The traitors had fallen. And from the ashes of a tragic past, a new family had risen to claim the dawn.
