Chapter 5 - Deciphering the Poisoned Ledger

Clara woke up in a vast, sunlit room surrounded by the hum of high-end medical equipment. The scent of lavender and clean linen filled the air. This wasn't a hospital; it was the medical wing of the Moretti estate.
"Mommy!"
Lily was sitting on the edge of the bed, a tray of fresh fruit and hot chocolate in front of her. Her fever was gone, her cheeks rosy.
Clara pulled her daughter into a fierce hug, tears leaking from her eyes. "Lily... oh thank god, you're okay."
"Mr. Dante gave me hot chocolate," Lily whispered proudly, pointing to the corner of the room.
Dante Moretti sat in a heavy leather armchair, his dark eyes fixed on Clara. In his lap lay the copied medical charts Clara had taken from the archive, alongside his mother's original letter. Marcus stood silently by the door.
"You're a nurse, Clara," Dante said, his voice a low rumble. "A real one. Not just a secretary."
"I was," Clara said softly, soothing Lily's hair. "Until I was framed for a mistake I didn't make because I wouldn't let a patient be neglected."
Dante stood up and walked to the side of her bed. He laid the copied charts down. "Explain this to me. Like I am a man who only knows how to destroy things, not heal them."
Clara took a deep breath, her professional instinct taking over. She pointed to the timestamps. "Your mother was given Heparin at 2:00 AM, sir. But look at the pharmacy log on page four. Dr. Hallow ordered an injection of an antagonistic compound just forty minutes later. Together, they don't cure a heart condition—they cause an internal hemorrhage that looks exactly like a natural stroke. The records were altered to make it look like the second dose was given twelve hours later. But the nurse's initials on the midnight shift were forged. It's the same forgery style used on my own nursing license revocation papers."

Dante's face grew terrifyingly still. "And who authorized Dr. Hallow’s unrestricted access to my mother's private suite?"
"The St. Clair charitable foundation," Clara whispered. "Managed exclusively by Valeria."
