Chapter 10 - Forever After the Storm

The wedding took place the following spring on a breathtaking estate overlooking the sparkling Atlantic coast in Newport, Rhode Island.
The sun shone brightly from a cloudless blue sky, warming the manicured lawns where white roses and cascading pink hydrangeas decorated the ceremony arch. There were no flashing police sirens, no men in tactical gear scanning rooftops, and no shadows of the underworld—only trusted friends, loyal business associates, and people who genuinely loved and respected them.
Down the flower-strewn aisle walked nine-year-old Mia, serving as the most joyful flower girl in existence, scattering pink petals with a beaming, proud smile.
And then came Sylvia.
She wore an elegant, flowing ivory lace gown that caught the ocean breeze, looking like a queen. Waiting for her at the altar stood Dominic, dressed in a sharp, classic tuxedo, watching her approach with an expression of such pure, unadulterated love that it took everyone’s breath away.
Vincent stood proudly as the best man, wearing a rare, genuine grin that made his broken nose crinkle.
As Sylvia reached the altar, Dominic took her hands in his. They were warm, strong, and completely steady.
"You look stunning," Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Vance," Sylvia smiled softly back.
The ceremony was everything they had both dreamed of—simple yet breathtaking, sacred and filled with absolute hope. When the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, Dominic pulled Sylvia into a deep, passionate kiss as applause and cheers erupted from the guests.
Later that evening, beneath a magnificent white reception tent lit by thousands of fairy lights, the celebration reached its peak.
At the center of the dessert table sat a colossal, four-tier strawberry cake decorated with delicate pink frosting and fresh, vibrant strawberries—a breathtaking, flawless replica of the one that had been destroyed in the bakery two years ago, but this time, it was made to be celebrated.
Mia grabbed a microphone on the dance floor, tapping it playfully before looking out at the crowd of smiling faces, her eyes landing directly on her mother and her new father.
"Everyone," Mia announced proudly into the mic, "my mom taught me that if you wish hard enough and never give up, even the hardest days can turn into a fairy tale. And my dad taught me that sometimes, the best things in life walk into a bakery when you least expect them."
Laughter and warm applause rippled through the tent.
May you like
Sylvia laughed, wiping a happy tear from her eye as Dominic wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched Mia dance with Vincent on the lawn.
The rain from that stormy October night was a distant memory. The blood, the fear, and the dark past were gone, replaced by a future shining as bright and sweet as the strawberry cake on the table. They had found their way through the dark, and they would never have to walk alone again.
