Chapter 8 - A Legacy Rewritten

Six months later, the fourth floor of Lakefront Children’s Hospital looked completely different.

The once-cold intensive care unit had been renovated into a state-of-the-art pediatric research wing. A giant brass plaque hung near the entrance, engraved with gold letters:

THE OKAFOR-KWON PEDIATRIC IMMUNOLOGY CENTER

Daniel Kwon had dismantled his illegal operations, systematically liquidating his illicit assets and transitioning entirely into legitimate enterprises, logistics, and medical philanthropy. The words on his knuckles—LOYAL and HONOR—had taken on a completely new meaning.

Evan was back on his feet. Though still recovering, he had regained his appetite, his skin was full of healthy color, and he ran through the hallways with energetic laughter.

Amara was by his side, wearing a brand-new yellow raincoat that actually fitted her, bought by Daniel himself.

Nneka sat in a comfortable armchair in the new medical center’s courtyard, her knees fully treated by the top orthopedic surgeons in the country, living in a beautiful home Daniel had purchased for her in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood.

“You transformed this place, Daniel,” Dr. Sloan said as she walked up beside him in the courtyard.

“I didn't,” Daniel replied, watching Evan and Amara race each other toward a park bench. “A lost little girl did.”
