Chapter 10 - Where the Silver Light Lands

A year after that fateful night, rain once again fell across the city of Chicago, turning the skyline into a sea of silver lights.

Inside the cozy living room of the Kwon-Okafor residence, a warm fire crackled in the hearth.

Evan and Amara sat side-by-side on a soft rug, playing board games. Nneka sat in a rocking chair by the window, knitting a blanket, her face peaceful and unburdened.

Daniel walked over to the window and looked out at the city.

A year ago, he had stood in a dark hospital room, watching his only son slip away, believing that power and twelve million dollars could command the universe. He had been a man with everything, yet completely bankrupt of hope.

Now, he knew better. True power wasn't in controlling people through fear or buying outcomes with wealth; it was in the courage to open your heart to a stranger, to offer a prayer when all hope seemed lost, and to build a bridge where walls used to stand.

Evan ran over to Daniel, holding up his favorite stuffed rabbit alongside Amara’s cloth doll, Faith.

“Dad! Amara says Faith can fly now!” Evan giggled.

Daniel knelt down to his son’s eye level, wrapping his arms around both Evan and Amara in a warm, tight embrace.

“Faith can do anything, kiddo,” Daniel whispered, looking up at Nneka, who gave him a knowing smile. “Faith brought us all home.”

Outside, the rain continued to fall on Chicago, but inside Room 412’s legacy, the light was warm, clear, and everlasting.
