Chapter 9 - A Promise Kept

Titan walked across the park lawn with his characteristic heavy stride, drawing curious glances from a few passing parents on the paved walking path, but he ignored them completely. His eyes were fixed entirely on the playground structure where Sofia had just climbed to the top.

As he approached my bench, I stood up and greeted him with a warm, firm handshake.

"Marcus. It's great to see you," I said, genuinely thrilled by his unexpected visit. "What brings you to our side of town?"

"Just out for a ride," Titan said, his deep voice rumbling as a gentle smile broke through his thick beard. He held up the giant eagle balloon. "And I heard there was an outlaw in this park who needed to check in with headquarters."

Before I could reply, Sofia caught sight of him from atop the climbing dome.

Her eyes widened with pure joy. She scrambled down the metal rungs faster than safety regulations probably recommended, hit the rubber mulch running, and sprinted straight toward the giant biker.

"Titan!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.

Titan dropped down to one knee just in time to catch her as she launched herself directly into his massive arms, wrapping her small arms tightly around his neck. He lifted her effortlessly into the air, spinning her around once before setting her gently back onto her feet.

"Look at you running circles around this place," Titan marveled, gently tapping the tip of her nose. "Doctor Vance said your engine was running smoothly, but I didn't know you installed a turbocharger."

Sofia giggled uncontrollably, her eyes shining with absolute admiration. She proudly pointed to the miniature silver eagle pin still attached to the collar of her jacket.

"I run every day now," Sofia declared proudly. "And I never cried during my last check-up, either!"

"That's my girl," Titan beamed, handing her the giant eagle balloon. "True outlaws never back down from a check-up."

I watched them interact with a heart full of peace. The man who had entered our lives in the darkest hour of our worst nightmare had become a permanent, cherished part of our family story—a living proof that love and courage transcend every label the world tries to construct.
