Chapter 6 - The Heir Transformed

A month after the truth came to light, the Alcázar residence looked completely different. The gloomy, rigid atmosphere that once dominated the grand halls had been replaced by the sound of laughter, running footsteps, and bright colors.

Lucía’s third birthday was approaching, and Santiago spared no expense to make it a celebration worthy of a princess. However, instead of hosting a massive gala filled with fake socialites, he chose to keep the gathering intimate, inviting the mansion’s staff members who had been kind to Camila during her years of struggle, along with a few close, trusted friends.

On the morning of the party, Camila stood in front of the full-length mirror in the master bedroom dressing area. She wore an elegant, sapphire-blue silk dress that highlighted her soft features and radiant dark hair. For years, she had worn only gray cotton uniforms and faded jeans. Seeing herself like this was almost overwhelming.

A soft knock came at the door, and Santiago walked in wearing a tailored black suit. He stopped in his tracks, his eyes fixing on her with an expression of pure admiration.

“You look breathtaking, Camila,” he said, his voice sincere and full of warmth.

Camila blushed slightly, adjusting the silk dress. “It feels strange… I feel like I’m wearing someone else’s clothes.”

“No,” Santiago said, walking over to stand behind her in front of the mirror. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box. “You’re wearing the clothes of the woman who belongs here.”

He opened the box to reveal a delicate platinum necklace featuring a teardrop-shaped blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds—a perfect match for her dress.

“Santiago, no, this is too much—” Camila started, but he gently silenced her by placing a finger against her lips.

“This belonged to my grandmother,” Santiago explained softly, lifting the necklace from the box and fastening it around her neck. “She was a woman from a humble background who married into this family and taught my father what real strength looked like. She always said that true grace isn’t born from wealth, but from resilience. You have more grace than anyone I’ve ever met.”

Camila looked at her reflection, touching the cool sapphire at her neck. The reflection no longer showed a terrified, exhausted maid. It showed a woman who had survived the worst life could throw at her and had emerged stronger for her child.

Downstairs in the gardens, the party was in full swing. Balloons of gold and white decorated the lawn, and a small carousel had been installed near the pool. Lucía, wearing a beautiful yellow dress, was running across the grass, chasing bubbles blown by Mateo, who had surprisingly taken on the role of the little girl’s favorite bodyguard and playmate.

As Santiago and Camila walked down the terrace stairs together, hand in hand, the staff members cheered softly. Lucía spotted them and came running over as fast as her little legs could carry her.

“Mommy! Look! Bubbles!” Lucía squealed, jumping into Santiago’s arms as he caught her effortlessly and lifted her high into the air.

“Happy birthday, my sweet girl,” Santiago said, kissing her cheek as she giggled uncontrollably.

Watching them together, Camila felt a deep, profound sense of peace settle over her heart. The pain of the past four years hadn’t vanished completely, but it was being replaced, piece by piece, with love.
