Chapter 6 - The Reclamation

While Ryan spent his first night in a holding cell facing federal indictment, and Jessica frantically called lawyers who refused to answer her calls now that her name was attached to his frozen assets, I was sitting comfortably in the penthouse apartment that Ryan had so proudly rented for his secret life.
I hadn't left my babies behind, of course. Within twenty minutes of walking out earlier that evening, my mother’s lifelong attorney and trusted family friend, Marcus Vance (no relation to Arthur Vance), had arrived at the house with a team of private security guards. While Ryan was busy celebrating with Jessica, Marcus and my security team had safely relocated my babies, the bassinets, and all our belongings directly into this penthouse—which, legally speaking, had been leased using community property funds, making it entirely mine under emergency marital protection statutes.
I sat in the plush leather armchair by the floor-to-ceiling windows, sipping a cup of chamomile tea while watching the rain wash over the Seattle skyline.
My phone buzzed. It was a text message from Jessica—dozens of them, actually, ranging from frantic begging to vile curses. The final message read: Please, Elena. Tell me you had nothing to do with this. Have mercy.
I calmly opened my settings, blocked her number, and deleted the chat history. Mercy was something Ryan and Jessica should have considered before plotting to throw a postpartum mother and her newborns onto the freezing streets.
The next morning, the legal proceedings began in earnest. Because I had secured every financial record, every offshore transfer log, and every incriminating email before Ryan even realized he was under siege, my divorce lawyers moved with surgical precision.
Under the emergency asset-freezing orders, Ryan’s corporate shares, his professional licenses, and any remaining liquid funds were placed under my temporary receivership as restitution for marital fraud and child support guarantees. The architectural firm, desperate to distance itself from the scandal, stripped Ryan of his partnership and initiated civil lawsuits to recover millions in damages.
Jessica, realizing that Ryan was not only penniless and facing ten to fifteen years in federal prison but also legally barred from transferring any assets to her, packed her bags and fled the state by Tuesday afternoon, deleting all her social media accounts in utter disgrace.

As for me? I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling mirror in the master bedroom. I looked at my reflection. My body was still soft; the stretch marks from carrying three precious lives were still there. But as I looked into my own eyes, I didn't see weakness or self-doubt anymore.
I saw a survivor. A mother. And a queen who had just reclaimed her entire kingdom.
