Chapter 4 - Unraveling the Empire

The realization didn't hit Daniel all at once; it crashed over him like a tidal wave. He staggered back against the glass partition, pulling out his phone to call his personal banker, only to hear a polite automated message informing him that his accounts had been restricted.

Over the next forty-eight hours, Daniel’s carefully constructed illusion of power crumbled to dust.

When he rushed back to the house to confront me, he found two police cruisers parked in the circular driveway. The officers stood by calmly while Marcus’s legal team handed Daniel two duffel bags containing his clothes. He wasn't even allowed step past the front threshold.

"Evelyn!" Daniel screamed into the open doorway, his voice cracking with desperation and anger. "You can't do this to me! I built this life! You are nothing without me! Do you hear me? Nothing!"

I walked slowly down the front steps, dressed in a sharp ivory suit, flanked by my legal representatives. The sight of me—composed, radiant, and utterly untouched by his rage—seemed to frighten him more than any legal document could.

"You always had a terrible memory, Daniel," I said softly, standing just beyond the police line. "You forgot who balanced the books when you were drowning in debt. You forgot who secured your first five million dollars in venture capital. And most importantly, you forgot that I never gave up my career; I simply let you wear the crown while I owned the kingdom."

By that afternoon, the news broke across financial outlets. Vance Global Technologies was undergoing a major corporate restructuring following the discovery of multi-million dollar unauthorized transfers made by Daniel into offshore accounts registered in the Cayman Islands—accounts he had used to fund lavish gifts, luxury real estate, and private trips for Vanessa.

Upon learning that Daniel’s accounts were frozen and that he was facing federal corporate fraud charges, Vanessa packed her bags and vanished overnight, blocking his number and leaving him stranded in a cheap airport motel with two duffel bags and a rapidly dwindling stack of cash.
