Chapter 3 - The First Domino Falls

The next morning, Daniel woke up in his oversized master suite feeling like a king who had finally purged his kingdom of unnecessary dead weight. He poured himself a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, pulled on a tailored suit, and dialed his assistant to arrange a celebration lunch at the city's most exclusive club with Vanessa.

At precisely 9:00 AM, Daniel walked into the glass-walled executive tower of Vance Global Technologies, expecting the usual chorus of subservient greetings from his staff. Instead, he was met with a heavy, uncomfortable silence. Employees whispered in hushed tones around the water coolers, nervously glancing at their screens.

Ignoring the tension, Daniel strolled toward his corner office, only to find two uniformed security officers standing outside his doors alongside Arthur Pendelton, the senior chairman of the board.

"Daniel," Arthur said, his voice clipped and entirely void of its usual warmth. "Do not go inside. Step into Conference Room A immediately."

Daniel frowned, brushing a piece of lint off his jacket. "Arthur, what is the meaning of this theater? I have a board meeting scheduled for eleven."

"The meeting was called two hours ago," Arthur replied sternly. "By the majority shareholder."

Daniel let out a loud, mocking laugh. "Majority shareholder? I own sixty percent of Vance Global! What are you talking about?"

Arthur pushed open the double doors of the conference room. Inside sat six senior board members, three forensic accountants, and Marcus Sterling, flanked by a team of junior attorneys.

"Mr. Vance," Marcus began smoothly, placing a stack of certified legal documents onto the polished oak table. "As of eight o'clock this morning, Vanguard Sovereign Capital exercised its contractual voting rights under Section 4 of the original corporate charter. Your personal equity stands at thirty-eight percent, as fifty-two percent of voting shares have always belonged to the primary funding entity—which is owned entirely by Mrs. Evelyn Vance."

Daniel’s face flushed a deep, mottled red. "That's absurd! Evelyn is a stay-at-home housewife! She doesn't own a single share of this firm! You're bluffing!"

Marcus calmly slid a second document across the table. It was a formal order of emergency asset freezing, issued by the High Court, blocking all of Daniel's personal accounts, corporate credit lines, and executive bonuses pending an investigation into corporate embezzlement and domestic battery.

"Furthermore," Marcus added, his voice steady as steel, "an emergency ex-parte protective order has been granted regarding your residence and your children. You have two hours to clear your personal belongings from the property under police supervision. Mrs. Carter—formerly Vance—has formally assumed executive control of this company."
