Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

Five years later.
The afternoon sun filtered through the massive glass windows of the newly expanded North Carolina Museum of Art atrium, casting warm geometric patterns across the polished concrete floor.
I stood near the central courtyard, holding a cup of iced coffee in one hand while watching my five-year-old daughter, Clara, chase a stray bubble across the lawn. Her dark curls bounced with every step, and her infectious laughter echoed against the modern architecture.
Daniel walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder. He smelled of cedarwood and crisp morning air.
“Everything okay, Chief Architect?” I teased, leaning back into his embrace.
“Better than okay,” Daniel smiled, looking up at the stunning, soaring steel-and-glass roof of the atrium—a design that his firm had successfully bid on, won, and constructed to absolute perfection five years ago. “Sterling & Associates just locked in the contract for the new Duke University research center.”
“Look at us,” I whispered, turning around in his arms to wrap my arms around his neck. “We actually made it.”

“We did,” Daniel said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to my lips. “Because no matter how much chaos someone tries to bring into our lives, truth and love always win in the end.”
Across the lawn, Clara squealed with delight as she popped another bubble, running straight toward us with her arms outstretched. We both knelt down, catching her in a tight, joyful hug as the golden Raleigh sun wrapped us in warmth. Life was peaceful, beautiful, and profoundly happy—just the way it was always meant to be.
