Chapter 10 - A New Sunrise

One year later, the Whitmore penthouse looked entirely different.

The cold, sterile minimalism of marble and glass had been softened with warm rugs, family photographs in silver frames, shelves overflowing with books, and the sweet, comforting scent of vanilla and baking bread drifting from the kitchen every single morning.

It was a bright, golden Saturday morning in June.

The grand piano Emily used to play no longer sat silent and dusty; instead, it was filled with lively music as Jessica played a simple, joyful tune while teaching a four-year-old Sophia how to press the keys without missing a note.

In the kitchen, Alexander stood by the stove—wearing a crisp white apron over his shirt sleeves, looking entirely unbothered by his status as a titan of Wall Street—carefully flipping a golden-brown grilled cheese sandwich in a well-seasoned iron skillet.

The doorbell chimed softly, and Grace walked in from the foyer carrying a bouquet of fresh summer sunflowers, smiling broadly as she watched the lively chaos of the home.

"Breakfast is served, ladies," Alexander announced, plating the warm, golden triangles onto simple white saucers.

Sophia squealed with delight, scrambling off the piano bench and running across the hardwood floor to wrap her small arms around Alexander’s leg. "Daddy made them! Just like Jessica taught you!"

"I am a dedicated student," Alexander laughed, scooping Sophia up into his arms and pressing a kiss to her cheek before setting her down at the kitchen counter.

Jessica walked over, leaning against his shoulder as Alexander wrapped his free arm around her waist, pulling her close. She looked down at the simple plate of grilled cheese, then up into Alexander’s warm, smiling eyes.

"Not bad for a billionaire," Jessica teased softly, a playful smile touching her lips.

"I had the best teacher in Manhattan," Alexander whispered, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead.

Through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, the morning sun poured over Central Park, bathing the entire city in a golden, limitless light. There were no ghosts lingering in the hallways anymore—only the sweet, enduring warmth of love, laughter, and a family that had finally found its way home.
