Chapter 2 - A Quiet Brilliance

The remainder of the transatlantic flight passed in a stillness that felt almost surreal. Baby Sophie remained fast asleep against Ava’s chest for nearly two hours before gently transitioning into Daniel’s arms without so much as a whimper.

Daniel spent the rest of the flight observing Ava. While other teenagers might have indulged in the onboard entertainment or rushed back to their seats, Ava remained in the first-class aisle for a long time, speaking softly with Daniel about her trip to London. When she finally returned to economy, Daniel picked up the custom leather notepad on his armrest and began taking notes—not about stocks or acquisitions, but about Ava Brooks.

He noticed the frayed edges of her backpack, the taped handles, and the sheer determination in her posture. Daniel Whitmore had made his fortune identifying hidden potential in algorithms and markets, but he recognized human brilliance just as easily. Ava was clearly extraordinary—not merely because she possessed an intuitive understanding of a distressed child, but because her mind operated on a frequency of pure clarity and empathy.

When the aircraft touched down at London Heathrow, Daniel made sure to intercept Ava at the gate. As crowd noise swelled around them, he handed her a sleek, navy-blue business card embossed with silver lettering.

"Ava," Daniel said, his voice quiet yet commanding. "If you ever need anything in London—or anywhere else—you call this number. My personal assistant, Marcus, monitors it constantly."

Ava looked at the card, then up at Daniel. "Thank you, Mr. Whitmore, but I'm just here to do my best in the competition."

"I know you are," Daniel replied with a rare, genuine smile. "And I have a feeling your best is going to change everything."
