Chapter 8 - The Bond Deepens

With her name cleared and her freedom secured, Camila’s life blossomed. The fear that had shadowed her for half a decade was completely gone, replaced by a deep sense of peace and purpose.
She spent her days supervising Diego's development. The bond between them was mystical; the boy thrived under her care, hitting every milestone ahead of schedule. To Diego, she wasn't just his doctor; she was "Auntie Cami," a constant source of warmth, laughter, and safety.
One evening, during a quiet dinner at the Mendoza estate, Isabel raised her glass.
"To Camila," Isabel said, her eyes shining. "Who didn't just save Diego, but saved our entire family from a lifetime of grief."
Camila clinked her glass, feeling a warmth in her chest she hadn't felt since she was a young medical student. "Thank you for believing in me. For giving me my life back."
Rafael smiled, looking at his wife and then at Camila. "We aren't done yet, Camila. A woman of your talent shouldn't just be a private physician. The world needs your hands."
He placed a beautifully leather-bound folder on the table. Camila opened it. It was a blueprint for a massive, state-of-the-art pediatric wing at the city’s children's hospital.
Printed across the top in elegant gold lettering was the name: The Camila Vasquez Pediatric Foundation and Research Center.
"I am funding it entirely," Rafael said. "And you are going to be the Chief of Pediatrics. We have already initiated the process with the federal medical board to fully reinstate your medical license in this country. You are going back to where you belong."

Camila stared at the blueprints, tears of overwhelming gratitude splashing onto the paper. "I... I don't know what to say."
"Say you'll accept," Isabel laughed, squeezing her hand. "The children of this city need you."
