Chapter 5 - The Confrontation

The kitchen fell dead silent. The only sound was the soft humming of the massive stainless-steel refrigerator and the rapid, frightened breathing of the two young girls.
Daniela immediately jumped up. "No! You can't fire Rosa! Dad didn't tell you to fire her!"
"Silence!" Patricia snapped, glaring at the young girl with cold hatred. "Your father left me in charge of this house! I have full authority over the staff! This woman is a thief and an incompetent servant, and she is leaving right now."
Rosa looked at the white envelope on the counter, then looked directly into Patricia’s eyes. There was no fear in Rosa’s gaze—only a profound, quiet dignity.
"If Mr. Duarte wishes to terminate my employment, I will accept it from him directly," Rosa said calmly. "Until he returns and tells me himself, my place is here, protecting Daniela and Martina."
"You insolent brat!" Patricia stepped forward, raising her hand as if to slap Rosa across the face. "You don't command anything here! Julian, call security and have this woman physically thrown out of the gate!"
Julian reached into his pocket for his phone, but before his fingers could touch the screen, a powerful, commanding voice echoed through the high-ceilinged kitchen, striking the room like a thunderbolt.
"That won't be necessary."
Patricia froze mid-motion. Julian stopped dead in his tracks.
From the archway leading to the formal dining room, Emiliano Duarte stepped out into the light. He was not wearing his travel coat. He did not carry a suitcase. His expression was not that of a tired businessman returning from an airport, but of an absolute monarch who had just discovered treason within his court.
Patricia’s breath caught in her throat. Her face turned ghost-white, the color draining from her lips so rapidly she looked as though she might faint.
"E-Emiliano?" she stammered, her voice high and trembling as her mind struggled to process his presence. "What... what are you doing here? Your flight to Europe... you were supposed to be over the Atlantic..."
Emiliano walked slowly into the center of the kitchen. Every step was deliberate, heavy with an overwhelming presence that seemed to shrink the room around them. He ignored Patricia entirely, walking straight past her toward his daughters.
"Dad!" Martina screamed, throwing herself from her chair into her father's arms. Daniela was a split second behind her, sobbing as she threw her arms around his waist.
Emiliano dropped to his knees on the tiled floor, wrapping his powerful arms around both of his daughters, pulling them so close to his chest that he could feel the frantic beating of their little hearts. He buried his face in their hair, weeping openly, unashamedly.
"I'm here, my sweet angels," Emiliano choked out, his voice raw with emotion. "I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry... Daddy is here. No one will ever hurt you again. Never again."
For a long moment, the billionaire tycoon remained on his knees on the kitchen floor, holding his daughters as if holding the very pieces of his shattered soul.
When he finally stood up, the warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by an abyss of dark, unyielding rage as he turned to face Patricia and Julian.
"Emiliano, darling, let me explain—" Patricia began, stepping forward with her hands raised in a desperate gesture of innocence, her old mask attempting to stitch itself back together. "This maid... she was abusing the girls while you were gone! She was trying to turn them against me! Julian and I were just trying to protect them—"
"Silence," Emiliano said. He didn't raise his voice, but the sheer cold authority in his single word made Patricia instantly choke on her own breath.
"You have five seconds to stop speaking before I lose what little restraint I have left," Emiliano continued, his voice dangerously low.
Julian, realizing the entire scheme had collapsed into ash, tried to slowly edge toward the back exit leading to the garden.
"I wouldn't move if I were you, Mr. Vance," Hector’s voice echoed from the corridor.
The heavy security chief stepped into the doorway, accompanied by four armed estate guards and two uniformed city police officers. Julian froze, his hands trembling as he slowly raised them into the air.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Patricia shrieked, panic finally consuming her completely. "You can't do this! I am your fiancée! You have no right to set a trap for me in your own home!"
"I have every right to protect my children from a snake," Emiliano said coldly. He turned his gaze toward Rosa, who stood quietly near the counter, her eyes wide with shock and relief.
Emiliano walked over to Rosa. In front of his children, his security detail, and the woman who had sought to destroy him, the most powerful billionaire in the city bowed his head deeply to his housemaid.
"Rosa," Emiliano said, his voice trembling with profound sincerity. "I owe you an apology that words can never fully express. I doubted you. I allowed venomous lies to blind me to your loyalty, your kindness, and the love you have shown my motherless daughters. You held this family together when I was too blind to see it breaking."
Rosa’s eyes filled with tears, but she offered a soft, humble smile. "Mr. Duarte... you don't need to apologize. You love your daughters. You were only trying to be careful. I only did what any decent person would do."
"No," Emiliano said firmly, reaching out to gently shake her hand. "You did what only a true guardian would do."

He turned back to Patricia, his face instantly turning back to stone.
"Officers," Emiliano gestured to the waiting police. "Take them into custody."
