Chapter 9 - The Summer Gala of the New Era

Six months later.

The Moretti estate was bathed in golden summer light. The vast lawns overlooking the Atlantic Ocean were adorned with white roses, crystal arches, and soft orchestral music that drifted over the breeze.

It was the day of the annual North Shore Charity Gala—an event historically used by elite families to display wealth and political dominance. But today, the atmosphere was entirely different.

There were no heavily armed guards looming threateningly in the shadows. The cold limestone mansion had been renovated, filled with warm light, family photographs, and colorful children's art hanging proudly in the grand hallways.

At the center of the lawn, two little girls ran through the grass, wearing matching custom white lace dresses and flower crowns.

Isabella, now glowing with health after a successful minor procedure overseen by top specialists, ran with vibrant energy. Beside her was Emma, her brown curls bouncing, holding a yellow plastic duck cup filled with apple juice.

“Look out, Sister!” Isabella laughed, dodging a spray of water from the garden fountain. “The dragon is coming!”

“I guard you!” Emma cheered, puffing out her chest bravely.

Watching from the elevated marble terrace were Lorenzo and Sophia.

Lorenzo looked striking in a tailored black tuxedo, his posture commanding yet relaxed. Beside him, Sophia was breathtaking in an off-the-shoulder gown of emerald silk. A diamond ring sparkled brightly on her left hand.

Lorenzo wrapped his arm securely around Sophia’s waist, pulling her close against his side. He pressed a warm kiss to her temple.

“Are you comfortable, Mrs. Moretti?” he murmured in her ear.

Sophia leaned back against his chest, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat beneath his tuxedo.

“I have never been happier in my entire life,” she confessed softly, looking out at their daughters playing freely on the lawn. “Sometimes... I still wake up thinking I’m back in that tiny Bronx apartment, worrying about how to pay for Emma’s next prescription.”

Lorenzo tightened his grip around her waist, resting his chin lightly on her head. “Those dark days are over forever, my love. You and Emma gave this house a soul. You saved my daughter, and you saved me.”

Several high-society guests and legitimate business partners approached the terrace, raising their champagne glasses in respect to the couple. Lorenzo greeted them with cold professionalism, but his hand never left Sophia’s waist, publicly signaling to the entire world that she was his protected, beloved queen.
