Chapter 9 - A New Blueprint

Two weeks later, the Moretti estate felt entirely different.
The heavy, oppressive silence that used to hang over the hallways had been replaced by the faint, joyful sound of a child’s laughter echoing near the eastern gardens.
Sophia Carter was fully recovered. The specialized treatments provided by Dr. Bianchi had completely cleared her system of the toxins, and the color had returned safely to her cheeks. However, she was no longer wearing the gray, worn uniform of a live-in housekeeper.
Instead, sitting at the mahogany desk in the grand administrative office on the first floor, Sophia was reviewing the estate’s newly restructured domestic logistics reports.
A soft knock sounded at the open door, and Alessandro stepped inside, holding a small paper cup filled with sliced strawberries.
"How is the new inventory system working out?" Alessandro asked, leaning against the doorframe.
Sophia looked up, smiling warmly. "It's incredible, Mr. Moretti. I don't know how you managed to automate the supply chain so quickly, but it cuts the staff's workload in half."
"Call me Alessandro, Sophia. We dropped the 'Mr. Moretti' rule last week, remember?" he reminded her with a faint, rare smile.
Sophia’s cheeks flushed slightly. "It's hard to break old habits."
"Well, you need to get used to your new title," Alessandro said, stepping further into the room and placing a formal employment contract gently on her desk. "Head of Estate Operations and Domestic Administration. Complete with full medical benefits, a dedicated childcare stipend, and working hours that actually allow you to tuck your daughter into bed every night."
Sophia stared at the contract, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears of disbelief. "Alessandro... I don't know what to say. This... this is too much. I'm just a housekeeper."
"You're the person who saved this house from being run by a traitor," Alessandro said firmly, pulling up a chair and sitting across from her. "Besides, someone has to make sure my shirts are actually ironed properly—though I’ officially relieved Emma of her laundry duties."
Sophia let out a bright, musical laugh that made Alessandro realize, with a sudden jolt of warmth in his chest, how rarely he had heard anyone genuinely laugh in this cavernous mansion before she and her daughter arrived.
Just then, tiny footsteps pattered down the hallway.
Before either of them could speak, Emma came barreling into the office, holding a newly ironed white dress shirt—though this one was clearly done by a professional—and marched right up to Alessandro.
"I helped fold it!" Emma announced proudly, holding up the shirt like a trophy.
Alessandro scooped the little girl up into his arms, tossing her gently into the air as she giggled with pure delight. He caught her securely against his shoulder, looking across the desk at Sophia, who was watching them both with a look of profound peace and happiness.
