Chapter 8 - THE TRUTH IN THE LIGHT

Six months passed. Spring bloomed across the city, melting the last traces of winter ice.

Nathan’s corporate foundation underwent a massive restructuring. He shifted tens of millions of dollars away from high-society galas and PR events, directing the funds directly toward building warm, permanent housing complexes for homeless families and young mothers. He named the initiative The Westfield Foundation.

However, the legal status of Mia and Leo remained uncertain. A distant, long-lost uncle had surfaced after hearing about the case on the news, demanding custody—or rather, hinting through lawyers that he would waive his rights for a substantial cash payout.

Nathan refused to let the man blackmail him, nor would he allow the children to be handed over to someone who viewed them as a payday.

During a final court hearing, the state judge looked over the documents, then down at Nathan, who sat at the defense table with Mia sitting quietly beside him in a simple blue dress, holding a drawing she had made of their new family.

"Mr. Fischer," the judge spoke, her voice heavy with authority. "You are not related to these children by blood. You have no legal obligation to them. You could easily donate to orphanages and continue your life. Why do you want full legal adoption?"

Nathan stood up, holding Mia’s hand firmly in his own.
