Chapter 6 - OPENING THE DOORS

Nathan called his legal team before noon. He hired the best family lawyers in the state and ordered his estate manager to transform the third floor of his residence into a child-friendly sanctuary overnight.

While the legal battle for temporary guardianship began, Nathan realized something fundamental had shifted within him. The emptiness he had felt at the gala was completely gone, replaced by a fierce, undeniable purpose.

He visited Mia every day, bringing her books, toys, and healthy meals. He spent hours in the NICU, holding tiny Leo against his chest, learning how to feed him from a bottle, how to change diapers, and how to burp him. The man who used to measure his life in quarterly profit margins was now measuring success in ounces of milk swallowed and hours of quiet sleep.

"Why are you helping us?" Mia asked one evening as Nathan read her a bedtime story in her hospital room. "Rich people on TV just smile and wave."

Nathan smiled gently, tucking her in. "Because a long time ago, Mia, I forgot what mattered. You reminded me."

Through his legal team's immense effort and his pledge to hire round-the-clock professional nannies and pediatric nurses, the judge granted Nathan temporary emergency custody of both children while a permanent solution was determined.
