Chapter 10 - The Brightest Morning

Ten years later.
The morning sun poured through the wide, arched windows of a sunlit university campus coffee shop, casting a warm, golden glow across a stack of heavy biology textbooks and a laptop covered in colorful stickers.
Daisy Parker—now eighteen years old, tall, confident, and radiant with life—sat at a corner table, tapping away at her keyboard as she finalized her application essays for premed undergraduate programs. Her posture was perfectly straight, her back strong and entirely healthy, carrying not a single physical trace of the shadows from her childhood.
The glass door of the café chimed pleasantly, and a tall, slightly graying man in a comfortable tweed jacket walked in, holding two steaming paper cups of coffee.
Kevin Parker walked over with a warm, familiar smile, his eyes carrying the unmistakable pride of a father who had watched his daughter conquer the world. He set the coffee down on the table and pulled out the chair opposite her, sitting down with a contented sigh.
“Decaf vanilla latte for the future Dr. Parker,” Kevin said with a grin, sliding one of the cups across the wooden table.
Daisy laughed, closing her laptop and taking a grateful sip. “Thanks, Papa. If I read one more article on cellular mitosis today, my brain is officially going to melt.”
“Well, your brain needs to stay intact because we have a graduation party to plan next week,” Kevin reminded her, his chest swelling with an emotion so deep it almost took his breath away. High school valedictorian. Accepted early decision to her dream university. A bright, beautiful future stretching out before her without limits or fear.
Daisy reached across the table, taking Kevin’s weathered hand in hers and squeezing it tightly. Her eyes shone with a deep, abiding love and gratitude.
“Papa,” Daisy said softly, echoing the word she had once whispered in terror through a half-open bedroom door a decade ago, though now her voice rang with absolute joy and security. “Thank you for always being there. Thank you for saving me.”

Kevin squeezed her hand back, his heart overflowing with a profound sense of peace. The nightmare of the past was nothing more than a distant memory—a storm long since passed. What remained was unbreakable, enduring love, and a future shining as bright as the morning sun.
“Always, sweetheart,” Kevin smiled gently. “Always.”
