Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Years passed, but the warmth that had breathed new life into the Romano estate never faded.
The sprawling compound on the hill was no longer a silent fortress of fear and isolation. It echoed with the vibrant sounds of life, laughter, and unconditional love. Antonio Castellano remained close by, managing the estate’s legitimate philanthropic foundations—funded largely by Vincent’s vast empire, which had gradually transitioned away from the shadows and into honorable, lawful enterprises.
Sophia grew up bright, kind, and fiercely intelligent. She excelled in school, bringing home glowing report cards that Vincent proudly framed in his study right beside the old blueprints of the estate. She never lost her magical touch with animals, and the east-wing courtyard doors were permanently removed, replaced by an open archway draped in climbing ivy where sunlight poured in freely every single day.
And Diesel? The once-dreaded bulldog lived a long, wonderfully spoiled life. He grew older and grayer around the muzzle, eventually trading his energetic chases for long afternoon naps beside the fireplace with Sophia resting her head against his massive, scarred flank. He never growled at a stranger again, because in his world, love had finally conquered fear.
On a warm summer evening, exactly ten years after that fateful day when a little girl in a white dress first opened the forbidden door, a grand celebration was held across the estate.
Lanterns glowed softly through the cherry blossom trees. Soft classical music drifted across the gardens, where family, friends, and loyal associates gathered to celebrate Sophia’s high school graduation. She stood on the veranda in a beautiful, flowing dress, surrounded by flowers and glowing with happiness.
Vincent Romano, now older with distinguished silver threads at his temples, stood beside her, his arm wrapped affectionately around her shoulders. He looked out over the thriving estate, watching Jeppe laugh with guests near the fountain while an aging, gray-muzzled bulldog snoozed peacefully on the porch rug nearby.
"Are you happy, Uncle Vincent?" Sophia asked softly, leaning her head against his shoulder just as she had done ten years ago in the gloomy study.
Vincent looked down at her, his heart swelling with a deep, unbreakable peace that no empire of fear could ever rival. He reached out, gently squeezing her hand, knowing that his walls had finally come down for good.

"I have everything I ever wanted," Vincent smiled, kissing the top of her head. "We won, Sophia. We won."
And together, surrounded by light, laughter, and boundless love, they lived happily ever after.
