Chapter 5 - Whispers in the Sanctuary

While Alejandro prepared his counter-strike, Sarah Carter sat in the grand guest room upstairs, holding her daughter in her arms.

Emma had woken up and was sitting on the floor, happily playing with a set of new wooden building blocks provided by the house staff. She had no idea that her small act of courage had set off a chain reaction across the entire criminal underworld of New York.

A gentle knock came at the guest room door.

Sarah opened it cautiously, relieved to see two elderly female staff members carrying silver platters laden with fresh fruit, warm pastries, and hot chocolate.

"Mr. Moretti requested that you and the little girl have everything you need," the head housekeeper, Teresa, said with a warm smile. "He also sent this."

Teresa placed a thick velvet box on the desk. Sarah opened it to reveal six brand-new, pediatric-grade auto-injectors, complete with personalized medical documentation signed by the top pediatric specialist in Manhattan.

Tears welled in Sarah's eyes. For months, she had struggled to afford basic medical supplies while working double shifts to clean the massive estate. In one single afternoon, a man feared by the entire city had solved all her worries.

"Is... is Mr. Moretti going to be alright?" Sarah asked quietly, looking out the hallway where armed guards stood post.

Teresa’s smile faded, replacing itself with a solemn look. "Don Alejandro is a good man, Sarah. Ruthless to his enemies, yes, but he protects those who are loyal to him. Tonight, he goes to clean his house. All we can do is pray for his safe return."

Emma walked over, holding her stuffed rabbit, and looked up at her mother.

"Mommy, is the Quiet Man going to throw away the bad wine?"

Sarah knelt down and wrapped her arms around her daughter. "Yes, sweetie. He’s going to fix everything."

"Good," Emma said innocently, placing a block on her tower. "Because bad drinks make people sleep too long."

Meanwhile, outside the estate, black SUVs were slipping quietly into the shadows of the rain-slicked New York streets, moving toward the docks of Brooklyn where the destiny of the Moretti family would be decided.
