Chapter 9 - A New Chapter

Six months later, the grounds of the Callahan estate were alive with color.

Spring had brought blooming tulips and cherry blossoms to the sprawling gardens along Lake Shore Drive. The iron gates, once a symbol of isolation and fortress-like paranoia, stood wide open to welcome visiting friends, neighborhood children, and family.

Inside the grand foyer, workers were bustling about, hanging white floral arrangements and soft lanterns for an evening celebration that the city’s gossip columns were already desperately trying to decode.

Vincent Callahan stood in front of the massive mirror in his private suite, adjusting the knot of his silver silk tie. He wore a tailored charcoal suit that fit him impeccably, his dark hair neatly combed, the harsh, perpetual scowl of his past replaced by a quiet, grounded contentment.

The heavy oak door opened softly, and Mason Reed stepped into the room, holding a small velvet box.

"Everything is set, Boss," Mason reported, a rare, genuine grin touching his lips. "The guests from the city council are arriving, the catering is immaculate, and the security detail has been briefed to make sure today is strictly a family affair. No business. No syndicates."

"Good," Vincent said, taking the velvet box from Mason’s hand. He opened it to reveal a stunning, elegant platinum diamond ring that caught the morning light. "And the twins?"

"Upstairs with Mrs. Shaw," Mason chuckled. "Noah tried to wear his pirate costume to the ceremony, but Grace intervened just in time. They're both downstairs in the garden right now, arguing over who gets to carry the rings."

Vincent closed the box and slipped it into his jacket pocket. He looked at his reflection one last time, remembering the man who had knelt on the marble floor six months ago, broken and defeated by the prospect of losing everything.

"Thank you, Mason," Vincent said quietly. "For everything."

"Don't mention it, Boss," Mason replied, clapping Vincent on the shoulder before turning to head downstairs. "Just make sure you don't drop the ring when the time comes."

Vincent walked down the grand staircase, his heart beating with a steady, joyful rhythm that he hadn't felt since the day he married Caroline. He knew Caroline would never truly leave their hearts, but Grace had brought something miraculous back into the Callahan home: a future.
