Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending
The sun was beginning to dip below the Chicago skyline, casting a warm, golden-amber glow over the courtyard garden. String lights blinked to life among the cherry blossom branches, and soft acoustic music drifted across the manicured lawn.
Eighty guests—a carefully curated circle of loyal friends, trusted associates, and local figures—stood applauding as Grace Miller walked down the stone pathway.
She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that swept gracefully across the grass. Her brown hair was styled in soft curls, woven with tiny white blossoms. She wasn't wearing a maid's uniform anymore, and she wasn't hiding behind tired eyes or heavy burdens. She looked radiant, beautiful, and completely at peace.
Waiting for her at the flower-lined altar stood Noah and Lily, both dressed in sharp little suits and dresses, grinning from ear to ear. And standing beside them was Vincent, watching Grace approach with a look of absolute reverence and devotion in his slate-grey eyes.
As Grace reached the altar, Vincent took her hands in his. Her fingers were warm, steady, and familiar.
"I told you on your first day that this house was waiting for death," Vincent whispered softly so only she could hear, a gentle smile touching his lips.
"And I told you," Grace whispered back, her blue eyes shining with unshed tears of happiness, "that it had been waiting with the curtains closed too long."
The officiant smiled warmly, beginning the ceremony that would legally and spiritually unite their lives forever. But as Vincent slipped the platinum ring onto Grace’s finger, neither of them was thinking about legalities or syndicates or empires.

From the front row, Noah and Lily let out a cheerful giggle, holding up a small banner they had painted themselves: WELCOME HOME, MOM.
Vincent laughed—a deep, resonant sound that echoed across the garden, carrying away the last ghosts of his past. He pulled Grace into his arms, kissing her gently as the crowd erupted into applause and the golden lights of Chicago shone down on a family that had finally found its happy ending.
