She met with District Attorney Marcus Vance at police headquarters, laying out the stack of evidence gathered over the last twelve hours.
The evidence was overwhelming: Denise Carter’s garage contained rat poison matching the chemical compounds found in Ashley’s soup. Traffic cameras near Old Mill Road captured Denise's SUV tailgating Andrew’s blue pickup moments before it went over the cliff. Furthermore, bank records revealed Denise had taken out huge personal loans under her name and was facing imminent foreclosure unless she secured money fast.
"This isn't just attempted murder, Natalie," DA Vance said, looking over the forensically verified evidence. "This is calculated, cold-blooded torture of a family. I'm filing first-degree attempted murder, child endangerment, and poisoning charges without bail."
At 10:00 AM, Natalie organized an official police press conference outside the precinct. Dozens of news cameras and local reporters—the same ones who had helped vilify Andrew hours earlier—gathered around the podium.
"Good morning," Natalie spoke firmly into the cluster of microphones. "I am here to issue a full update regarding the incident on Cedar Street. Yesterday, public assumptions were made that painted Andrew Hale as a deadbeat father who abandoned his daughter. Today, I am here to tell you that Andrew Hale is a hero."
The reporters murmured in surprise. Natalie laid out the precise facts: how Andrew was deliberately run off the road into a steep ravine by a greedy neighbor, how he survived four days trapped in his crushed vehicle without food or water, and how his only driving force to stay alive was his desperate love for his daughter.
