PART 9: The Legacy of Truth

The evening reception unfolded beneath a magnificent canopy of twinkling fairy lights strung across the estate's grand terrace. The air was filled with the rich aroma of gourmet cuisine, clinking crystal champagne glasses, and the joyful murmur of celebrating guests.

Priya sat at the head table beside Weston, watching with a fond smile as Owen—now resting comfortably in a padded bassinet beside their chairs—drifted off to sleep, completely unfazed by the festive noise around him.

"You look deep in thought, Mrs. Kade," Weston murmured, leaning over and pressing a gentle kiss to her bare shoulder.

Priya turned her head, resting her chin in her hand as she smiled at her husband. "Just thinking about how far we've come, Weston. Six months ago, we were sitting in a sterile hospital room wondering if tomorrow would ever come. And now..." She gestured broadly toward the glittering celebration surrounding them. "Look at us."

Weston smiled softly, swirling the amber bourbon in his crystal glass before setting it down on the white tablecloth. He reached out and intertwined his fingers with hers, his thumb gently stroking the diamond wedding band resting beside her key pendant.

"We survived the fire, Priya," Weston said, his voice dropping an intimate, serious note. "And because of you, my legacy isn't written in violence or shadows anymore. It's written right here. In our family."

Before Priya could reply, the estate's head butler approached the table discreetly, bowing slightly.

"Pardon the interruption, Mr. Kade. There is a delivery at the front gates for Mrs. Kade. Security cleared it through the automated scanners."

Priya raised an eyebrow, looking curiously at Weston. "A delivery? For me?"

"Let's go see," Weston smiled, standing up and offering her his arm.

Together, they walked down the stone pathway toward the grand entrance of the estate where a sleek black courier van was parked near the fountain. The driver stepped out, holding a large, beautifully wrapped package tied with a thick silver ribbon.

"Delivery for Dr. Priya Kade," the courier said politely, handing over a sleek electronic clipboard for her signature.

Priya signed her name with a digital stylus, and the driver unloaded the heavy box onto a marble bench before driving away into the cool autumn night.

With Weston standing close beside her, Priya carefully snipped the silver ribbon and lifted the cardboard flaps. Inside rested a thick, beautifully bound leather volume with embossed gold lettering across the cover:

The Department of Pediatric Metabolic Research - St. Jude Memorial Foundation. Dedicated in Honor of Dr. Priya Kade: Pioneer of Clinical Integrity and Patient Advocacy.

Priya gasped softly, flipping open the cover. Inside the first page was a formal, beautifully framed certificate of establishment for a brand-new, fully funded pediatric research and critical care wing at St. Jude Memorial—named entirely in her honor, designed specifically to provide free, top-tier medical care for premature infants from underprivileged families across the South Side.

Below the certificate was a handwritten note from the newly appointed hospital board president:

Dear Priya, Because of your courage, our hospital has been redeemed. This wing stands as a permanent testament to your unwavering dedication to the truth and the vulnerable souls who need protection most. Thank you for showing us what true medicine really means.

Tears welled up in Priya's eyes as she traced the golden letters with her fingertip. She looked up at Weston, her heart overflowing with emotion.

"Did you... did you have a hand in this?" she whispered.

Weston smiled, wrapping his strong arms around her waist and pulling her flush against his chest.

May you like

"I only provided the funding, my love," Weston murmured softly against her hair. "The name, the vision, and the soul of that wing belong entirely to you."

Priya wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a deep, lingering kiss beneath the autumn stars.
