PART 6: The Fall of Corruption

The executive boardroom on the tenth floor of St. Jude Memorial offered a panoramic view of the glittering Chicago skyline bathed in the bruised-purple hues of pre-dawn twilight. But inside the room, the atmosphere was thick with tension, fear, and impending doom.

Dr. Everett Voss sat bound tightly to a leather swivel chair at the head of the mahogany conference table, his glasses crooked, sweat beading heavily on his forehead. Silas Thorne sat tied to a chair beside him, nursing a bruised throat and staring blankly at the floor.

Standing behind them were Weston's armed security operatives, their tactical vests standing in jarring contrast to the plush luxury of the corporate executive suite.

Priya stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a secure laptop connected directly to the boardroom's main projection screen. Displayed across the massive sixty-inch monitor was the complete, unredacted financial ledger of St. Jude Memorial—including millions of dollars in clandestine wire transfers from offshore pharmaceutical conglomerates routed directly into private accounts controlled by Voss and Thorne.

"It's all here," Priya announced clearly, her voice echoing in the silent room. "Every illicit trial phase, every falsified patient chart, every compromised nutritional batch designed to simulate natural organ failure in vulnerable infants."

Dr. Voss lifted his head, his professional arrogance finally shattering. He looked across the table at Weston, who sat quietly in a high-backed leather chair, cleaning the blade of a small pocket knife with a white linen handkerchief.

"Mr. Kade... please," Voss whimpered, his voice cracking. "We can make a deal. We can transfer Owen to a specialized facility in Switzerland, fully funded, all expenses covered. We can fix him—truly fix him—using our advanced protocols."

Weston stopped cleaning the knife. He didn't look up immediately. He slowly folded the blade, the metallic click sounding like a gunshot in the quiet room.

"You had my son starving to death in a glass box," Weston said softly, finally raising his eyes. Those grey-blue eyes locked onto Voss with a gaze so heavy the doctor shrank back into his chair. "You used my flesh and blood as a laboratory rat while I sat outside crying over his monitor every single night, blaming myself for the enemies I've made in the streets."

"It was just science," Thorne muttered defiantly from his chair.

Weston stood up, walking slowly around the conference table until he stood directly between the two disgraced doctors.

"In my world, when someone steals from a king, we take their hands," Weston said, his voice smooth and lethally quiet. "When someone hurts a child, we take their entire existence."

Weston turned his gaze toward Priya. "Is the data securely transmitted to the federal prosecutor's office and the state medical board?"

"Encrypted and sent ten minutes ago," Priya nodded firmly, holding up her tablet. "Along with the chemical analysis report Marcus brought back from our private lab. The active metabolic retardant compound matches the patent registered under Thorne's name."

"Good," Weston said, slipping his phone from his pocket and tapping a single contact. "Marcus, bring the federal agents waiting in the lobby up to the tenth floor. Tell them the board meeting is in session."

Within five minutes, heavy footsteps echoed outside the double doors as federal marshals and local detectives poured into the boardroom, flashing badges and slapping steel handcuffs onto Dr. Voss and Dr. Thorne while reading them their Miranda rights.

As the disgraced doctors were hauled away in silence, the heavy cloud of corruption that had suffocated St. Jude Memorial for years finally began to lift.
