Chapter 10 - A New Sunrise

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, exactly two years to the day since our world had shattered.

I woke up at 7:18 AM. But this time, there was no smell of burnt toast, no suffocating dread, and no monsters lurking on the porch. The cottage was warm, filled with the sweet aroma of banana pancakes and the soothing, rhythmic sound of ocean waves rolling onto the shore.

I walked down to the kitchen. Lily, now a tall, vibrant eight-year-old girl wearing a bright sunflower dress, was dancing happily to a cheerful song playing on the radio. She was carefully placing fresh strawberries onto a breakfast platter.

"Mommy!" Lily turned around, her eyes sparkling with pure, unadulterated joy. She ran over and wrapped her arms tightly around my waist. "Good morning, Mommy!"

I knelt down and kissed her forehead—a kiss of absolute peace, completely free of fear.

"Good morning, my angel," I smiled, taking her hand as we walked out onto the front porch.

On the horizon, the sun was rising majestically over the ocean, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold, pink, and orange. A fresh sea breeze washed over us, bringing the scent of freedom and new beginnings.

We had once been forced to flee into the dark, but today, we stood proudly in the light. The storm had passed, leaving behind a beautiful, boundless future where we were finally safe, finally happy, and finally home.
