Chapter 7 - The Viper's Web Unraveled

Six months later, the Cray estate celebrated a historic transformation. The old iron gates, once symbolic of criminal isolation and danger, were replaced with open, elegant wrought-iron arches welcoming guests to the grand opening of the Cray Foundation—a charitable enterprise dedicated to pediatric healthcare and medical research for hearing impairments.
Dominic had funneled tens of millions of dollars from his family's restructured assets into founding state-of-the-art audiology clinics across the region, ensuring that children from low-income families received free, top-tier medical care.
On the day of the foundation's official launch, the estate lawn was filled with local leaders, doctors, community members, and journalists. The sun shone brightly through clear blue skies, highlighting the vibrant flowers blooming along the conservatory pathways.
I stood near the podium, wearing an elegant cream-colored dress. Beside me stood Marcus, now four years old, dressed in a sharp little suit with a tiny bowtie that matched Dominic’s tuxedo.
Dominic stepped up to the microphone. The audience clapped warmly, awaiting his speech. For the first time in front of the public, he addressed the crowd without an interpreter or translation monitors.
"Thank you, everyone," Dominic began, his voice strong, resonance filling the courtyard speakers. "For three years, I lived in absolute silence. I believed my condition was irreversible because I was surrounded by deceit and betrayal. But truth and healing often come from the most unexpected places."
He looked over at us, his eyes shining with profound gratitude and warmth.
"A brilliant little boy named Marcus looked past the silence and saw what everyone else failed to see," Dominic continued, pointing gently toward my son. Marcus grinned proudly and gave a small wave to the crowd, causing warm laughter and applause to ripple through the audience. "Because of Marcus, I regained my hearing. But more importantly, because of Marcus and his wonderful mother, Elena, I remembered the value of truth, love, and family."
Dominic stepped down from the podium and walked directly over to where we stood. The crowd watched in captivated silence as he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
He knelt down on one knee in front of me, right there in front of hundreds of guests and media cameras.
"Elena Vance," Dominic said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "You came into my life when I was surrounded by darkness. You showed me courage when I had lost hope, and you gave me a family when I thought I was destined to be alone. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
The breath caught in my throat. Tears of pure joy spilled down my cheeks. Marcus tugged on my skirt excitedly, jumping up and down. "Say yes, Mommy! Say yes!"

I laughed through my tears, kneeling down to hug Dominic tightly around the neck. "Yes! Yes, Dominic, a thousand times yes!"
The crowd erupted into loud cheers and applause as Dominic slipped a beautiful, shimmering diamond ring onto my finger. He pulled both me and Marcus into a tight, warm embrace, kissing my forehead and swinging Marcus up onto his shoulder.
