Part 3: The Man at the Door
The dispatcher instructed everyone to stay inside and keep every entrance locked.
Daniel whispered, "Police are on the way."
Outside, the fake courier didn't leave.
Instead, he placed the package on the porch.
Then he stepped backward.
Smiled.
And walked calmly toward a black SUV parked across the street.
Before driving away, he looked directly at the house.
As if he knew they were watching.
When officers arrived minutes later, they examined the package.
Inside was only a stuffed rabbit.
Lily gasped.
"That's Bun-Bun..."
Emily stared.
It had disappeared from daycare three months earlier.
Tucked inside the rabbit was another note.
"She'll come with us willingly this time."
Detectives immediately treated the case as an attempted child abduction.
Emily finally asked the question she had been avoiding.
"Mom...why didn't you tell us sooner?"
Linda broke down.
"Because we weren't certain."
Robert added quietly,
"We hired a private investigator after the photographs arrived."
The investigator discovered something terrifying.
Sophie's kidnapping twenty-nine years earlier had never been random.
A child trafficking network had targeted families through schools and parks.
Most members had been arrested decades ago.
One had escaped.
His name had appeared again only weeks before.
And now...
He had been seen near Lily's school.
Daniel looked at Emily.
"I'm sorry."
Emily took his hand.
"No...I'm sorry I didn't believe either of you."
For the first time that evening, the family stood together instead of against one another.
The detectives began preparing a plan.
