Chapter 9 - Standing in the Light

A year after the nightmare began, Lone Star Logistics opened its brand-new regional hub in Chicago.
I stood on the stage of the grand ballroom at the Palmer House Hotel—the exact venue where the investor dinner was supposed to happen a year prior. I wore a stunning, custom-designed emerald green gown.
The audience was filled with industry leaders, investors, and my dedicated employees. Standing in the front row was Julian, my new Chief Operating Officer—a brilliant, respectful leader whom I had hired to rebuild the operations department. Over the past year, Julian had proven to be a true partner in business—someone who valued transparency, hard work, and mutual respect.
When I took the microphone, the room fell silent.

“One year ago, someone told me that without a man behind me, I was nobody,” I said into the microphone, my voice resounding clearly across the hall. “She believed that success was something given, not earned. But true strength isn't given. It is built—day by day, choice by choice, through courage and self-respect.”
The applause was overwhelming.
