Chapter 9 - Healing and New Beginnings

A year passed.
The pain of the past didn't disappear overnight, but with time, therapy, and the unwavering support of real friends, I healed. The Lin Industrial Trust flourished under my direct management. I became a well-known philanthropist, using my wealth to build hospitals and shelter houses across the country.
Alex Reed remained by my side through it all. What started as medical care turned into a deep, respectful friendship, and slowly, beautifully, into love. He didn't know about my millions when he first helped me at the hospital; he had only cared about saving my life.
One bright spring afternoon, Alex and I walked through the gardens of my new estate—a beautiful, warm home filled with light, completely unlike the cold fortress of the Vance mansion.
Alex stopped by a rose bush, turning to face me. He took both of my hands in his.
"Audrey, I’ve watched you rebuild your life from the ashes," he said, his eyes filled with an emotion that made my heart flutter. "You are the strongest, most resilient woman I have ever known. I don't care about the trusts, the companies, or the past. I just want to protect your smile for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?"
He opened a small velvet box, revealing a simple, elegant sapphire ring.

Tears pricked my eyes, but this time, they were tears of pure joy.
"Yes, Alex," I whispered, pulling him close. "A thousand times, yes."
