Chapter 10 - A Vow in the Light

The wedding was held on a brilliant Saturday afternoon in May, right on the private lawns overlooking Lake Michigan. It wasn't a flashy, intimidating mob gathering, but an intimate, elegant celebration surrounded by the few people who mattered most—loyal friends, trusted allies, and Mrs. Gable, who cried happy tears through the entire ceremony.
I wore a simple, breathtaking ivory dress that flowed gracefully in the spring breeze, and as I walked down the white-petaled aisle on Marcus's arm—who had proudly insisted on acting as my escort—my heart felt light, free, and completely at peace.
Standing at the altar waiting for me was Victor. He wore a classic tailored black tux, looking every bit the powerful king of Chicago, but as our eyes met across the lawn, his stern exterior melted away into a smile of pure, radiant happiness.
When I reached his side, he took my hands in his, his grip warm, steady, and secure.
“You look breathtaking,” he whispered softly as we turned to face the officiant.
“You clean up pretty well yourself, Boss,” I teased quietly, earning a low, genuine chuckle from him.
As we exchanged our vows under the warm Chicago sun, promising to protect, honor, and cherish each other through all the days of our lives, I looked out over the sparkling blue waters of the lake.
I thought back to that terrifying night in the dark apartment bathroom—to the blood on my hands, the shattered bones, and the desperate whisper into the phone.
I had called the most feared mob boss in Chicago, expecting a miracle, and instead, I had found my true home.
Victor slipped the platinum band onto my finger, and when the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, Victor pulled me into his arms and kissed me with all the passion and devotion of a man who had waited his whole life to find his true peace.

The crowd erupted into joyful applause and cheering. As Victor swept me up into a celebratory embrace, I knew with absolute certainty that the dark days were gone forever.
Our story didn't end in the shadows. It began there, and together, we had built a future bathed in unbreakable light and love.
