Chapter 9 - The Promise of Tomorrow

Liam turned to face me, his eyes filled with profound tenderness and certainty.

"Madison," Liam said, his voice soft yet completely steady. "From the moment I met you at the hospital, I saw a woman of unmatched strength, kindness, and love. You’ve rebuilt your world from scratch, and you’ve let me become a part of it. I love you, and I love Noah with all my heart."

He opened the velvet box to reveal a simple, exquisitely beautiful diamond ring that caught the soft glow of the evening garden lights.

"I don't want to just share your present," Liam continued, tears twinkling in his eyes. "I want to spend the rest of my life protecting your peace, supporting your dreams, and being a father to Noah if you'll have me. Madison, will you marry me?"

I looked at the ring, then up at Liam’s gentle face, and finally over at Noah, who was happily running across the grass toward us with Grandpa Arthur chasing right behind him, both of them laughing freely.

There was no fear left in my heart. No doubt. No shadow of the past.

"Yes, Liam," I whispered, tears of pure joy overflowing. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"

Liam smiled brightly, slipping the ring onto my finger before pulling me into a warm, deep embrace.

Noah came running up the steps, jumping right between us on the wooden porch. "Group hug!" he shouted, throwing his tiny arms around both of our necks.

Grandpa Arthur stepped onto the porch, leaning on his cane, looking down at the three of us with a look of complete, quiet fulfillment.

"Looks like everything turned out the way it was supposed to," Grandpa said softly, a broad smile spreading across his weathered face.
