Part 10: Our Happily Ever After

Six months later, the coastal home was alive with laughter and the bright, curious energy of a growing baby. Maya had learned to crawl, turning our living room rug into her personal playground, chasing after colorful soft toys while Claire and I watched from the kitchen island.
It was a Saturday morning, exactly the kind of peaceful weekend I had dreamed of during my long, lonely flights across the world years ago. The sunlight streamed horizontally through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, warming the hardwood floors where Maya was currently attempting to conquer a stack of cushions.
Claire stood beside me at the counter, stirring honey into her morning tea, her hair falling loosely over her shoulder. She looked radiant, completely at peace, her eyes sparkling with the happiness that had once been systematically dimmed.
"You're staring again," she teased softly, glancing over at me with a warm, knowing smile.
"I have every right to," I replied, wrapping my arms around her waist from behind and resting my chin gently on her shoulder. "You're the most beautiful woman in the world, and I'm the luckiest man alive."
Claire turned in my arms, resting her hands against my chest as she looked up at me. The memory of that terrifying morning in the Vance estate felt like a lifetime ago—a distant, fading nightmare from a different reality altogether. We had won our freedom, our peace, and our family.

From across the room, Maya let out a happy squeal, holding up a plush teddy bear as if displaying a grand trophy. We both laughed, stepping away from the counter to scoop her up into our arms together.
As we stood there in the bright, sunlit kitchen, surrounded by the warmth of our own home and the boundless love we shared, I knew that no matter where life took us or what challenges lay ahead, our story had found its true, unbreakable, and happily ever after.
